A bridge at the top of Blaenllechau in the Rhondda Fach. This bridge signals the end of the journey up the valley as the road circles back on itself immediately afterwards (Towards the spot where I am standing). It appears to be a modern construction placed upon the supports of a much older bridge witch i suspect may have be related to the areas mining history. I felt an instant connection with this location, that I must photograph it. The more time I spent here the more I became intrigued as the bridge seemed totally out of place, almost unnecessary, the road could have simply finished with the last house it did not need to traverse the small valley and stream below. It comes of as almost surreal and liminal, as if the bridge has been placed in wait of some further development that has never come to be and remains in purgatory, finished in itself but without purpose while it awaits another object that could bestow that purpose upon it. My photograph does not put this across, at least I do not believe so. There's no mystery, no enigma, and nothing to draw an audience in. The bottom half of the picture adds nothing yet is there due to my desire to include both the bridge and the sheds on the left, these help to add to the liminality of the image, but not enough, and there is very little sense of the uncanny that I felt while I was there. This may be a location to return to.
